One of Matterform’s favorite downtown eateries is Al’s Big Dipper. Al’s Big Dipper is a sandwich shop, specializing in sandwiches created from the freshest ingredients, with a large and diverse menu, including salads, homemade soups, and various sides. Located at 5th and Copper it is a convenient downtown Albuquerque lunch spot.
We originally designed the Al’s Big Dipper website, however it was needing a redesign in order to match up with current design trends. For the redesign, we kept the straightforward one-page layout that promoted ease of accessibility to the full menu, while still highlighting other key areas like contact information. A large component of this redesign was making the site mobile-friendly, as the previous design had no optimizations for mobile devices. Â Another element of the redesign called for high-quality photos of menu items, as appealing photos are one of the biggest new customer draws on restaurant websites.
We staged the photoshoot after the lunch rush, so as to minimize impact on the business and allow for more flexibility when it came to the photography. We ordered several different items, from both the hot and cold sandwich menus, along with a range of the available sides. The daily soups were Veggie Bisque, and French Asparagus and Mushroom. Ordered items included:
- Big Al’s Going Green, with a pasta salad side.
- Christopher’s Crunch, with a cup of Veggie Bisque soup.
- French Dip-a-Do, with a side of coleslaw.
- The 505 lunch deal, which is a full-sized grilled cheese with choice of side. In this case, fresh fruit.
Photos were taken with a Nikon D3100 camera, with the 18-55mm kit lens. The photos were then processed, and added to the page as a slideshow background for the full-page hero, completing the redesign process. They’re worth checking out, as they’ll get your stomach growling for sure.
